Another option for setting up ads on Instagram is from your account. Open your profile and click the “Promotions” button. In the section that opens, you will see:
an offer to promote the most popular recent post; menu for selecting a publication for promotion; list of already running ads. If you select a publication for a promo, the already familiar setup menu will open: lead destination, targeting and budget – we described it in detail in the second paragraph.
The Facebook Ads Manager opens up more options for targeting and budgeting than the mobile app. Moreover, if you don’t have a smartphone at hand, this is the only way to launch or check ads on Instagram, because the desktop version of the site does not allow you to work with promotion. At the time of writing, it is not possible to launch ads through Instagram from a computer.
Create an Instagram promotion
Log in to the Facebook account that you previously linked to your Instagram profile. Click the flag icon in the top menu – it leads to the “Pages” section. Most likely, you will have only one page – open it. Then click the “Promote” button. Important: publications set up in this way will not be promoted on behalf of you as an Instagram user, but on behalf of the Facebook page. Fill out the profile so that the page does not scare away with its emptiness. After that, the site will prompt you to select the goal of promotion – this is where you can choose to set up an advertising campaign on Instagram. Facebook will show your posts in chronological order from newest to oldest. Select one of the publications and proceed to detailed settings.

If you scroll down the screen, you can select ad placements. Opposite the “Facebook” item there is an inactive checkbox that cannot be unchecked – but you can disable or enable the “Instagram” display location. Here you also need to specify the method of payment for advertising and launch the campaign.
In the Facebook advertising account
Instagram is a convenient platform for quickly launching advertising campaigns. Any user can promote their posts and stories in a few clicks. Setting up ads on Instagram, even from an empty account, will take no more than an hour.
The first time you set up ads on Instagram, you need to switch from a Personal account to a Business or Creator account. After that, the application offers to link Instagram with a Facebook account and create a page.
You can start promoting a specific post by clicking the “Promote” button under the desired post. Then the social network will offer to choose targeting, duration, budget and payment method and the ad will be ready.
- You can also turn your stories into ads. Open the story, click “More” in the lower right corner and select “Promote” from the menu that opens. After that, you will also set the audience, timeline, and campaign budget.
- You can only promote stories and posts from the mobile app; the desktop version does not allow you to create promotions.
- On a PC, you can launch a campaign through the Facebook Ads Manager. In this case, the post will be displayed on behalf of the page to which the advertising account is connected, and not on behalf of the Instagram account. Also, ads set up via Facebook will be displayed on both Instagram and Facebook – the latter cannot be disabled.
